About Us

DIET is the creation of new education policy,NPE-1986 and programme of action(POA) envisages a district level institution to support academic function and teacher empowerment programme in the district. DIET is the nodal institutions for improving the quality of elementary education in the district. Quality education is the bedrock of quality life in our society. With a view to ensure these aspects ,NPE suggested to strengthen the two dimensions of teacher education: Pre-service and In-service training of our human resources. As part of it ,District Institute of Education and Training were established across the country. In the context of NCF, RTE Act, the responsibility of DIET grows multi-fold and not limited to as an institution to impart training to pre-service and in-service.

DIET,Bongaigaon was created on 09/10/2013 vide Deptt.of education(elementary),Govt.of Assam’ notification No.PMA437/2012/180 as a 4th phase DIET along with other 3(three) DIET’s.The DIET,Bongaigaon has been functional from july’15 when government of Assam Deptt. of (Elementary)Education appointed a full fledges principal.

The vision of DIET’s are to provide better academic input for teachers in service as well as prospective teachers. The in-service and prospective teacher education programmers’ were undertaken as a follow up activity.
